Swin Cash may be a highly decorated professional athlete, but there is more to her than points and rebounds. Swin, whose name Swintayla means “astounding woman,” is the founder of Swin Cash Enterprises LLC and the founder of Cash Building Blocks, LP, an urban development company that renovates and offers affordable homes for low income families. As if that weren’t enough, the McKeesport, Pennsylvania native, is the founder of Cash for Kids, a 501 (c) (3) charity with the mission to “motivate, educate, & elevate” kids. Through Cash for Kids, Swin has helped thousands of children across the nation and around the world, with a particular focus on fitness, leadership and service.
Selected as the number two overall pick in the 2002 draft, it didn't take long for Swin to rack up awards and accolades. She is a five time WNBA All-Star, two-time WNBA All-Star MVP, and a three time WNBA Champion. Swin also is a two time Olympic Gold Medalist and was voted 'Dapper Dan Sportswoman of the Year' in both 2003 and 2007. Swin was recently honored by the WNBA as one of the top 20 Greatest and Most Influential Players in League History. Swin has played professional basketball for three seasons in China and with WNBA teams in Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Atlanta and New York. With the WNBA teams Swin played forward and wore number 32. The 2016 WNBA season as a member of the New York Liberty was her 15th and final year as a professional basketball player. Following her illustrious playing career, Swin accepted a job in the New York Liberty’s front office as Director of Franchise Development, a first-of-its-kind role in the league that sees her assisting with both business and basketball operations. She became just the second former player in WNBA history to immediately assume a front office position, and is the first to take on a role supporting both business and basketball goals.
When not playing basketball, Swin pursues her other career as a sports journalist and on-air commentator and analyst for CBS Sports, NBC Sports, Turner and MSG Networks. Swin is presently a commentator on CBS Sports’ “We Need to Talk,” which is the first national all-female sports show. Swin is also Host of MSG Network’s “The Jeff Hornacek Experience” and In-Studio Analyst for “New York Knicks Game Day.”
Swin Cash is a much sought-after Public Speaker who has addressed topics of: Leadership, Teamwork, Overcoming Adversity (cancer, back surgery), Health and Fitness, Fashion, Women’s Issues, and Children’s Issues. She is the author of Humble Journey, More Precious than Gold, a recounting of her eventful journey through her professional and personal life and her discovery of why the lessons she learned are more precious than the medals she’s earned. Swin’s true passion is public service and philanthropy. She has served as an Envoy for U.S. State Department in their work with children in various countries and she has served as an Envoy for NBA Africa & NBA India. She has also devoted her time to serving as a Mentor to the White House Office of Faith-Based & Neighborhood Partnerships as well as the White House Fatherhood Initiative.
Swin has spent over a decade with the WNBPA on the executive committee advocating for players. She has received an honorary doctorate from Washington & Jefferson College for public service, and multiple awards and honor of recognition such as History Makers Awardee, Smithsonian - Heinz History Center, Alumnae Hall of Fame, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, March of Dimes New York 2016 Sportswoman of the year award and the 2016 Freedom Award from the National Civil Rights museum in Memphis, Tennessee. Swin has been awarded multiple WNBA's Care Community Assist Award’s for her extensive outreach efforts. Cash enjoys talking to young people, encouraging them to believe in themselves, to achieve their goals and to become leaders in their communities. This, she believes, leads to self-confidence, self-development and is essential to helping kids “get in the game” of life.
